Business tip: Work-for-hire agreement?

I experienced a lot of doubt when deciding if I really wanted to approach my passion from a professional standpoint mainly due in part to my fear of being victim of intellectual property (IP) theft and plagiarism.

After speaking with and retaining an industry legal professional I learned that if I wanted to protect my brand and my IP from any sort of theft that I should utilize a standard “work-for-hire”agreement.

This agreement outlines pay or compensation between the originating IP owner and hired/retained person (usually an engineer or artist) as well as the rights and entitlements as the originator of the IP. This clearly sets expectations between you as an IP owner and whomever you wish to collaborate with!

I will continue to share my personal experiences as small business owner/operator here in these blogs, but keep in mind I’m not a lawyer! I can’t implore you enough to consult with a legal professional with industry experience in your field of pursuit when making decisions for your business. Best of luck!
